The Sustainist Design Guide reviewed by Maren Maier Founder and Editor of Creative States.
"While an increasing number of organizations, companies, and governments comprehend the benefit of ‘sustainism’, many are not yet adept at leveraging these design-led approaches to help shift existing business models.
If we are to achieve real “sustainism,” designers must go beyond the simple intent of ‘sustainist’ design practice. As they dig deeper into complex and ambiguous problem sets where outcomes are often intangible, they must find productive ways to measure – and prove – its impact. Designers must embrace economic mechanisms and analytic research to help organizations recalibrate existing processes and approaches. Whatever future ‘ism’ we assign this new design landscape, it must carry a convincing body of evidence if it is to establish mainstream legitimacy. Perhaps Schwarz and Krabbendam might consider a sequel – “A Guide to Assessing the Impact of Sustainist Design.”
