About the artist Cheilch Papa Sakho
Coming from a family of artists, Papa Sakho has a heart for everything related to art and craftsmanship. He makes paintings, repairs things, sews, and installs plumbing and electrical systems. He is also a musician, he plays the djembe, harmonica, and he sings. Painting is his great love. "When people want to buy my work, I feel jealousy; I can't let go of my own work. My entire house is now filled with paintings." The colorful boxes are meant to be given as gifts. You can put small loose items in them, such as keys or jewelry. They are meant to collect different items. The idea for the boxes arose when his son no longer wanted to go to school, and Papa Sakho sought a source of income for him.
Papa Sakho, as a survivor of the Schiphol fire 15 years ago, received a residence permit and has been living in the Wildeman neighborhood for seven years. He was born in Senegal.
